Cornerstone Commons

3600 Broadway · Great Bend, Kansas

The cornerstone was laid in 1940. For more than eighty years, this building has been part of Great Bend’s story. Now we’re writing its next chapter, together.

A new chapter for a Great Bend landmark

Cornerstone Commons is a plan to carefully restore the historic building at 3600 Broadway and give it a new purpose: affordable and moderately priced apartments for seniors on the upper floors, and a hub for community and nonprofit uses on the ground floor.

The chapel will remain, serving as a gathering place for community events. The building is also planned as a community resilience hub: a safe, reliable place neighbors can turn to during severe weather, power outages, and other emergencies. The goal is simple: keep this building open, cared for, and serving Great Bend for generations to come.

Heritage

Restoring a 1940 landmark and honoring the history inside its walls.

Homes

Affordable and moderately priced apartments so local seniors can stay close to home.

Community

A ground-floor hub and chapel space open to Great Bend.

Resilience

A place the neighborhood can count on when storms or outages hit.

Then and now

Built of brick and laid out on the open prairie at the edge of town, the building has watched Great Bend grow up around it. Its cupola, dormers, and front entry look much as they did when it first opened.
